Loci Creative is an urban design and public art studio, with a mission of creating places that are true to their distinctive character through an artistic, site-specific, and environmentally sensitive approach.

​Founded in 2015, Loci Creative combines the fields of art, landscape architecture, and urban design.

About the Owner

Rachel Kavathe is an artist, landscape architect, and city planner. Her work focuses on our connections to our natural environment and sense of place. Her studio is located in Columbus, Indiana. 

Rachel has twenty years of experience working with communities to create, enhance, and celebrate the genius loci, or spirit of a place. Her work ranges in scale from community-wide master planning and public space design, to public art installations, and environmental art.

Rachel is also an adjunct professor at Ball State University College of Architecture and Planning. She has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 2007. She is also a licensed landscape architect in the state of Indiana (PLA) and an active member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University, a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia, and a Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina.

Prior to founding Loci Creative in January 2016, Rachel worked as a city planner and urban designer in both the public and private sectors in Indiana, Georgia, and Florida.
