Native Indiana Sculpture Series
Rachel Kavathe received grant from the Indiana Arts Commission in 2017 and 2018 to complete a series of stone carvings with Indiana limestone. The ongoing sculpture series uses native Indiana landscapes as inspiration for abstracted sculptural forms. Some first pieces of the series were on display at the Nickel Plate Arts campus in Noblesville, IN from July to December 2017. Each artwork in the collection is inspired by a native Indiana plant. This project seeks to gain awareness of the importance of native plants and landscapes, and inform the public through the arts on the importance of native plants and landscapes not only for environmental health, but also to foster our region’s unique sense of place. Each piece in the series uses Indiana limestone. Several pieces are currently underway at the Columbus, Indiana studio. An exhibit of the series is planned for next spring in Columbus, Indiana. |
